Fun in the Sun- Memorial Weekend 2011

We discovered this weekend that we have a water baby on our hands.  Holden loved the water.  We started the weekend hanging out with Grammy and Great Mimi at grammy's pool.  This was a great day to introduce Holden to the water.  It wasn't too hot and there was a nice breeze, plus mom's neighborhood pool as a small pool that is covered just for little tykes like Holden.

Holden also got to meet his Uncle John for the first time!  My younger brother (step brother, but who's taking notes) plays baseball in Kansas and since Holden was born he has not had a break from practice and games, so he hasn't been home since Christmas.  It was nice to see him and let him see Holden for a little while.

As you can see, Holden thought he should properly introduce himself, by spitting up all over Uncle John.  That's my boy!
Sunday, we went to Shawn and Brenda's for a poolside BBQ.  Holden of course was the cutest and most fashionable one there.

He really enjoyed the entertainment, water volleyball, a little nap in the water, a bottle and then swim lessons with Daddy.  All in a days work.

After swim lessons with Daddy, Holden had a little talk with Uncle Bo.  It's funny how much everyone says Holden looks like Chuck, but then when you see him with my brother, he looks like a little mini Bo.

Monday, we remembered those who serve, have served and will serve our great nation.  We honor and respect those that lay down their lives to protect us. Thank you hero's!

Holden was so worn out from all the weekend activities, he slept most of Memorial day.  Little tooter bug was tuckered out.

What a wonderful weekend with friends and family.  We look forward to many more.

4 Months Old- 5/24/2011

Our angel boy is 4 months old today!  He had his check up today as well.  He was such a big boy.  Dr. Kim says that he has amazing social skills.  He's such a smart baby.  He was talking up a storm with her.  I know he was telling her how much he loves his mommy and daddy!  He only screamed for a few seconds when he realized he had been stuck.  Then he was back to his happy self again.  Mommy hates when he cries that hard though.  Love it when he's back to smiling.

So here are his 4 month old stats:

16 lbs. 6 oz. (75%)
25 1/2" Long (60%)
Head: 16 1/2" (50%)

Holden has done so much this month.  It's hard to remember everything.  I think I need to start writing it all down.  But here are a few things you've accomplished this month:

  • You're hand/eye coordination is tremendous!  You love grabbing hold of things and you are so aware of things around you.  You have 2 toys that dangle from your car seat, as soon as we put you in the car you grab hold of the hoops at the bottom of one of them.  Half the time you fall asleep with a death grip on that thing.  Daddy says its cause of my driving.  Very funny!
  • You talk up a storm!  Seriously, I never knew anyone could talk more than your Grammy, but boy, you're giving her a run for her money.  Mommy loves to hear your stories, you tell the best stories.
  • Sleep seems to be one of your favorite things (LOL).  You sleep all through the night 90% of the time, and I mean sleep all through the night.  You are normally down by 9:00 and don't wake up until Mommy comes to get you about 6:30.
  • Our time in the car is spent listening to classical music, which seems to make you talk louder.  Seems to make me want to sleep, but I know that it will do great things for you.  You are already such a smart little by.
  • You made a new friend this month, Jett Heiser.  You two boys are going to be the best of friends.
  • You started eating cereal this month too!  Of course, no surprise here, you love it.  Anything that involves food seems to suit you just fine.  It's so funny to see you try to swallow the cereal.  I honestly don't think any of it gets down, but you seem content with it.
  • You still try to suck your thumb, but Mommy, daddy and Ms. Linda do everything we can to keep you from doing that.  But you still seem to find a way to sneak it in sometimes.
  • You love to laugh at yourself in the mirror.  It's so cute.  mommy sings " how much for the baby in the mirror" and you just smile at yourself.  Then daddy comes in and counts your rolls, which you laugh at now, but I have a feeling you're going to kill me for these blog post later.
  • AND FINALLY!!!!!!!  You rolled over!!!!!  Mommy was so proud!

Happy 4 Month Birthday precious boy.  Mommy and Daddy are so proud of you and we love you so much.  Thank you Lord for a healthy and happy baby.  We are so very blessed to be his parents and are looking forward to all the days head.

Best Buds

Holden had a play date with Jett today.  It was the first time for us to meet Mr. Jett so we were super excited, we even made sure to pick out the best outfit for the occasion (although you cannot see it in the video, his onesie says "I have a Play Date.").  I have a feeling that Jett and Holden are going to be the best of friends.  Debbie (Jett's momma), called him crabby, cause he would get a little fussy here and there, which baby doesn'.  But I think Jett and Holden really understood each other in a way that Debbie and I couldn't.  Cause as soon as we got them together on the blanket, Jett was a completely different baby.

If only we knew what they were talking about.  On second thought, I don't think I want to know.  They were probably telling each other stories about their crazy momma's.  Debbie and I have really good laughs together, as we're both a little goofy, so I can only imagine what these two will have to say to each other as they grow up.  Double Trouble!

It was nice visiting with them today.  Looking forward to many more memories and play dates!

Week of First

So last week Holden had many first.  I feel like I'm behind on posting, but really just have a few items that are new to tell about.

Holden has always been one to spit up, sometimes its just a little, but other times it seems like an entire feeding.  So I took him to the pedi last week.  Since he doesnt' show signs of having any pain, in his tummy or throat she was hesitant to put him on any medication.  Which is OK with me, I don't want a medicated baby.  But she made some recommendations, which we have incorporated and they seem to help. We're not nursing for as long, the pappy goes in the mouth as soon as the nipple comes out and we burp and wait a bit before nursing resumes.  This has really helped in the spit up department.  But, while we were at the pedi, she said it was OK to go ahead and incorporate some cereal, once in the am and again in the pm.  She wanted to start out with a real small amount, 2 tbsp and consistency of pea soup.

So our first go at it was last Wednesday, of course, no surprise, my little piggy wiggy had no issue opening up wide.  He doesn't really get much down in his tummy, cause his tongue is just a going, but at least he gets the concept of spoon, open mouth, enter food and try to swallow.  Here are some pics:

He was a happy camper after some milk and cereal, just like his Momma.  I love me some cereal.

We then headed down to Austin to visit our friends Doug and Michelle.  Holden was such a good baby!  He slept the whole way there and only got a little fussy when we got in some traffic in Temple.  After a little milk, he was right back to snoozing.

Daddy and Doug played golf Saturday morning, while we enjoyed sleeping in!  We then headed out to Lake Travis.  I was a little nervous.  I wasn't sure how he would handle being out on the water and was so afraid that he would get fussy and there we'd be stuck in the middle of the lake somewhere.  But of course, my little doodle bug was amazing.  He was the perfect baby.  He slept on my chest most of the time, but at least he was stylin'.

Only the boys were brave enjoy to actually get in the water.  No thank you.

The Sweetest Things

This has been a wonderful first mother's day.  Holden slept for 9 ours again last night, so I woke up very well rested.  The sermon at church was awesome and Holden did well as usual.  He even fell asleep in my arms, which I would not trade one second for every moment I have him in my arms.  We then had a nice lunch with Billy and Kim on the patio at Cheesecake factory and now we're home relaxing with Grammy.

Holden and daddy did pretty good this mother's day.  I got flowers at work on Friday.  Then this morning I received a really sweet card, a gift card for a massage and best of all a James Avery ring with Holden's initials engraved.  I love it.  The perfect mommy ring.

After some fun with mommy, it was time to hang out and talk with Grammy.  First we gave her the mother's day gift that Holden made.  He is very talented, at such a young age.

She really liked it.  Now here's the story on the art work.  My mom LOVES her flowers.  Me on the other hand, I kill everything I've ever planted, definitely did not get my mom's green thumb.  So, I thought it would be cool to start a tradition of making Grammy something she can use in her flower beds.  So I bought one of those kits.  They don't list an appropriate age group that should be using the kits.  It should warn that a 3 month old probably wont cooperate when it comes to making a hand or foot print in concrete.  Just saying.  Needless to say, Grammy's first stone just has her name, a heart, Holden's initials and the date.  Hopefully next year Holden will understand what Mommy is trying to do when I try to pry his hand open and stick it in concrete.  I promise, he was not hurt during the making of this lovely gift.

After gifts we had some play time.  We recently started using the Jumparoo.  He loves it at Ms. Linda's so I thought it was time to get ours out at home. So that's was Daddy's honey do for his day of this past week.  Holden loves it.  He just laughs at all the lights and sounds.

I am so very blessed to have such a loving husband and a baby boy that just admires me and loves me in such as way that only I can understand.  He is my angel boy.  Thank you for making me a mommy!  Holden, you are the light of my life and I look forward to every moment with you.
