Fall Fun 2012

Holden and I were supposed to go to a Fall Festival yesterday, but with the lovely impending Hurricane Sandy, mommy spent most of the morning working.  But we managed to get there in enough time to ride the 4-wheeler train, see the pony rides and kick and scream our way to NOT enter the jump house.  I guess he is not into bounce houses just yet.  And it was even one for little kids.  But we had fun either way.

And today we enjoyed a nice breakfast and then some fun in the cool sunny weather at the Pumpkin Patch!

And last, but certainly not least.....Holden has a secret

Well, although normally he is all over telling you "yes" I am going to be a Big Brother, and "yes" Mommy is having a baby, Big Brother Holden was not as cooperative with the announcement.  But Chuck and I are very excited to finally share our news with everyone!  Baby H2 will arrive at the end of April and we couldn't be more blessed and elated to make our family of 3 a family of 4.

Mommy and Baby are doing well

SePtEmBeR/OcToBeR 2012

Although there will be more to come for October, as we have lots planned over the next few weeks here are just a few things we've been doing:

This will be the last year that we attend the State Fair on our usual Columbus Day holiday.  When it was just Chuck and I, it wasn't all that bad as most of what we wanted to see, hear and do was not occupied by 1000 of kids that were out of school for their fair day.  But now that we have Holden, we'll have to rethink our Fair day.  The lines for everything were awful, but we made the most of it non the less and had a really good day at the fair.

Holden had his first train ride experience, we decided to avoid the traffic and took the DCTA train this year.  Holden LOVED the train, especially as we would arrive at each stop and the engineer would blow the train horn.  This might be something we add to our annual Fair day.

Not only did Holden get to have his first train ride, but he also got his first pair of CowBoY bOoTs!  I always thought it was cute when little boys would wear boots with anything and everything.  Now of course, I'm the mom with the son that wants to wear his boots with everything.  But he is just too cute NOT to let him do it.

Just FYI- he does have on his diaper

And finally, Holden went to the dentist this past week and man, they didn't have dentist offices like this when I was a kid.  They had a waiting room for kids, one especially for adults.  Tons of games, books and toys to play with.  Holden got to tour the office, see all the many tropical fish tanks and after his exam he got to pick a prize from the huge toy box!  And above all, the staff was amazing and Holden has beautiful, healthy teeth.

I know this picture does not really support my post, this was taken after all the fun stuff when Mommy was trying to make him sit in the chair when he wanted to stand and slide down it.

Catch Up

Wow!  Time has flown by, I actually had to re-learn how to update my blog!  And the last blog I had was from May.  You would think that we had a busy summer, but we really didn't do anything exciting.  But chasing after a toddler and working, keep us pretty busy.  Here are just a few of the highlights:

Backyard sprinkler fun

Love the swings at Kids Kastle

Kiddie pool at Grammy's

Chilled watermelon to keep you cool

Yes, I'm the parent who let my kid play in the fountains

Watching some fireworks

Mommy's date to Kristin and Brandon's wedding in Giddings, TX

First haircut at Cool Cutz

Motorboatin' with The Davis' (Lake Whitney)

Jacie's 4th Birthday party

More fun in the sun

Splash Park fun!

Popsicle to keep cool

Mommy's Birthday Girls Night Out- August

After my 2nd Cool Cutz haircut

Daddy's 40th Birthday (Sept. 2012)
That pretty much sums up our summer of fun 2012.

Pee-pee in the potty! Pee-pee in the potty!

So, although we are by no means any where near beginning to potty train Holden, we thought it was a good time to introduce him to the potty.  Just to get him comfortable with it, plus he sees Wilson at Ms. Linda's get to go to the "potty" so him and Carter (who is the same age as Holden) have started to get a little curious.

Anyway, this morning when Holden woke up I asked him if he wanted to sit on the potty, which he responded with his usual head nod.  I figured that he would just sit there for a minute, have a drink of milk and then up he would be, but nope.  He sat there while I went to get my camera and as soon as I got back, I heard a little trickle and can you believe it!  He went pee-pee!  I was one proud Momma.  Needless to say, I got the "what in the world are you doing momma" look as I jumped up, clapping and singing, "pee-pee in the potty!  Pee-pee in the potty!"

And even more surprising!  He went again after his nap!  I don't think I'll have to worry about him not being "comfortable" on the potty.  Fingers crossed that the actual potty training goes this well!

And just because this is a cute pic, I wanted to post.  Holden wasn't wanting to lay down for his nap today, so I asked if he wanted to read while he got sleepy.  I guess it worked.......

Almost looks like he just fell straight forward.

Love experiencing all these new and exciting things with my little man.  Want to stop him from growing up, but so enjoy seeing him learn!

15 Months

Holden had his 15 month check up this past week.  He is growing up so fast, each day that passes makes me more and more proud of him.  He learns so much and so quickly.

15 month stats:

26 lbs. 6 oz.
32" tall
18 1/2" head circumference

What Holden is doing these days:

  • No picker eater here, Holden LOVES almost all foods.  Unless it gets cold, he'll eat anything.  Loves his milk too!
  • He does knuckle bumps and high five
  • If you ask, "Holden, how many are you?" he'll hold up both of his pointer fingers to let you know that he is "1"
  • He is still doing the motions to itsy bitsy spider and has now started swinging his arms back and forth when we sing "row, row, row your boat."
  • Holden has discovered that his legs not only allow him to walk/run, but they also allow him to climb.  Lord help me!  He can almost climb up his Little Tykes castle slide, which scares me to death!
  • He had his first black eye and busted lip this month.  Both within the same week, first he tripped over my shoe at the Shops of Highland Village and face planted, then a few days later whacked himself in the check with a toy in the car, which lead to a black eye.  All boy!
  • Holden loves to play ball, rolling it, throwing it or his best attempt at kicking it.  He's getting better at the kicking part, but only outside.
  • He also strums his bottom lip like a guitar, he does this ALL THE TIME now.  Making all sorts of noise.
  • He really hasn't started talking much yet, but I know he will when he is ready.  The fact that he knows so much without talking just amazes me!  He is so smart and picks up on things very quickly.
  • And most of all, he is still the best little love bug.  This boy loves to give hugs and kisses!  And he is a ladies man. Any girl that looks his way or gives him attention, he thinks they are looking for sugars, so he starts sticking his next out to give them away.
I'm sure there are many other things that he has started doing since turning "1" but he keeps us so busy its hard to keep track of everything.  We're just so blessed to see the world through his little eyes, nothing else matters.

Love,

You and Me Goin' Fishin' in the Dark

These were just too cute not to post.  Holden received a fishing pole from his Uncle Jearold and Aunt Cari a few weeks ago, but we had put it up until he is a little older.  Well with everything having to be out of the hall closet to install the wood floors, someone found the fishing pole and decided that it was NOT supposed to be stored away for when he was bigger, but in fact he IS big enough now to know how to properly use it.  So, fishing is what he did.  All around the house.

My sweet boy, I'll let him catch me any day; I don't mind spending 30 minutes untangling the line either.

I guess now is as good a time as any to show off the new floors too!  I LOVE my new wood floors.

Please excuse the dust particles in the air or on the lens.
And you can see Holden in the corner of this one, WITH the fishing pole.

All we need now is baseboards and some fresh paint on the trim and we're good to go.  I'd also like to take this time to thank my wonderful hubby!  He took a week off work, which he typically does around this time to ensure that he is off for opening day of the Texas Ranger's; but typically he gives back and few days and works.  Not this year.  This year he trimmed all the bushes, power washed the fence and house, stained the fence and supervised the flooring install.  Not bad!  I guess I should take pics of the fence too.  Maybe later.  Good night for now, I'm tired.
