My..........Dad's Pinterest Project and Memorial Weekend

Memorial Weekend we headed North to enjoy the weekend with friends and family.  We started the trip driving through the worst thunderstorm ever.  We had just gotten on 121 when it started raining, by the time we reached Frisco, the water on the roads was so high that you could feel the tires working to drive and push through the water.  Everyone was driving with their hazard lights on at like 20 mph.  It was crazy.  Fortunately for us, we were driving faster than the storm, so we were able to get ahead of it before we had to drive through all the construction and narrow lanes of 75.  Just as we arrived at the Little's for a Fish Fry the bottom fell out again, but we didn't let that stop our fun.  We enjoyed some really good food and company as we celebrated Kristen's birthday.

The next day, we slept in, had breakfast and let Holden have his first driving lesson.  Granted he has been "driving" for some time now, ever since I let him "drive" my car from my grandparents house up to my aunt and uncle house (don't worry, out in the country, plus my grandparents and uncle live on the same driveway, just about 1/4 mile apart).  Anyway, Holden loved driving the jeep.  Thankfully Pop remember to charge it this time, so it saved us from having to take him on 1,000 gator rides, instead we only took a handful.

We also turned the driveway into a work of art.

And then later, I had the great idea to start a Pinterest project that I had been wanting to do.  And of course, I KNEW my dad would have everything I need to complete it.  LOL, of course, its helpful when your dad is a contractor!  Then again, its also helpful when your dad's work trailer that holds all of his tools is NOT located in Rowlett when you are in Denison.  Just saying....but we made it work.

Here are a few shots of the "in progress" and finished product.  Not bad for a last minute idea.

Dad used the left over wood and made the boys a sign with their names on it.

Mother's Day 2013

I have to say, that this was my most favorite Mother's Day yet!  My first Mother's Day was the best, because it was then that I first got to celebrate this wonderful occasion as a Momma, but this year, I had both of my boys to celebrate with.  And it was a beautiful weekend.  We spent the entire weekend outdoors, enjoying each other and the sunshine.

Friday, I started MY weekend having muffins and juice with Holden at school.  Actually, Holden ate muffins and drank juice while I spent a little extra time with him before I met Chuck for breakfast!  Yum.  It was nice getting to sit and have breakfast with my #1 boy.

Daddy picked Holden up that afternoon and brought home a homemade magnet Mother's Day card from Holden and a picture of flowers in a basket that Holden colored.

Saturday, me and the boys went for a nice long walk, followed by a little play time at the park.  Then later that day, Grammy, Uncle Bo and Lindsey came over for a BBQ.  Chuck grilled beer-can chicken, baked beans and homemade potato salad.  We hung outside all afternoon, watched Holden play baseball, basketball and golf while Mommy soaked up some sun.  I even got a little sunburn on my shoulders.

Mom brought me a lily from her garden, same colors as my wedding flowers!

Sunday, after church we headed North and spent the day at Pop and Nonna's house.  Holden loved it, even though Pop forgot to put the Jeep batteries on the charger, Holden didn't know the difference.  He just sat in it, played the radio and pretended to drive.  Of course, he could have been the 20 rides on the Gator that he went on that helped pass the time.  It was nice to visit with my parents, Uncle David and Aunt Jackie, Byron, Grandma and Norman too.

We were all so tired, that when we got home, we all took a quick shower and were in bed early, even Hayes.  Holden was so worn out after all the playing and short naps that he slept until 10:00 Monday morning!  Even Hayes and Mommy slept until 9:00, of course this was after Hayes' 1:00 AM and 6:00 AM feedings, but hey, I can't complain!

Thank you all for a wonderful mother's day!

Weekend Away with Grammy and G-Pa

Over the first weekend after Hayes was born, Grammy and G-Pa had asked if Holden could go with them to Abilene to watch Uncle John play in a baseball tournament at Abilene Christian.  This was Holden's first time to go on a trip without Mommy and Daddy so I was a little nervous at first, but since Hayes needed some time to get to know Mommy and Daddy, and since it was just one night away, I figured it was OK.

Holden had a blast and Grammy and G-Pa said that he was a little angel.

Some Randoms

As I was clearing out pictures on my camera and phone, I came across some random photos that I never blogged.  So I'll just cover all of them in one post.

Holden's BIG BOY ROOM

I don't think I ever did an update on Holden's big boy room once we got it finished.  We moved his toy box and toys into his room once we mounted the TV on the wall.  We also moved all his books to his bookshelves in the closet when we moved the changing table into the nursery.  Organization is key!

Big Brother Chair

Daddy bought Holden a surprise while he was back at school after Hayes was born.  He was so excited to have his new chair!

First Bath Together

The boys had their first bath together last week.  Holden was very helpful, he sang songs to brother and helped rinse him off once Mommy bathed Hayes.  Holden also helps change brothers diapers and talks/sings to him when he gets fussy while Mommy is cooking dinner, which seems to be the time that Hayes wants most of my attention, then and while I am trying to eat the dinner that I fixed.

Breakfast Fun

One morning a few weeks ago we took Holden to breakfast before school.  He and Daddy had a little fun with the activity kit they gave Holden while we waited on our breakfast to come.

A Boy and His Dog

Odd Places

Holden watches cartoons on the iPad in the oddest places and falls asleep in odd positions too.

A Daddy's Love

So, while I was pregnant with Hayes, Chuck and I had several conversation about how would it be possible to love another baby as much as we love our tooters.  Chuck really struggled with this one, as my man of steel became a little more "soft hearted" when our little tooters joined our family!  Those close to us know that Holden has been the center of our world and has brought us so much closer together, taught us so much and completed our family since the day he was born.  We often brought this same conversation topic up with our parents and friends with multiples.  They all said the same thing, "you just do."  That sounds simple enough right?  But, we still wondered how would are hearts expand to allow as much love as we show Holden to allow the same amount of love for Hayes.  Although this was not a direct prayer that we prayed for God's guidance, as always, he hears all prayers, spoken and unspoken.  And I can say with 100% certainty that mine and Chuck's hearts have expanded 100% and we are completely in love with BOTH of our boys.  Everyone was right, "you just do" is exactly right.  And now, our family is truly COMPLETE.

For Daddy, I think everyone agree that he quickly figured out how easy it was to love and adore both of his boys!

Brotherly Love

I have to admit, the emotion I felt meeting each of my babies for the first time was amazing.  The love that you instantly feel for your child is the strongest love I have ever felt.  But in a very close second was the love and emotion I felt seeing "my boys" together for the first time.  Honestly, I cried more with their first touch than I did when each of them was born.

I knew that Holden was going to be a great big brother, he is such a loving and caring little man.  His nurturing heart is so pure and full of love for his little brother.  I melt every time I hear Holden say, "it's OK baby brother."  And he is very proud to be a big brother, he tells everyone when they coo at brother, "this Hayes."  Holden loves to love on Hayes, hold him and doesn't like it when Hayes cries.  He asks, "momma, what wrong?"  Which I assure him that little brother is OK, he's hungry, or sleepy or needs love from big brother.

These two are going to be the best of friends, they will have a bond that started the moment they met!
